Lattice Boltzmann method for high Reynolds-flows : theory and industrial applications.

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is a relatively new technique for computational fluid dynamics that is attracting progressively more attention from industry and academia.
Its classical formulation, know as BGK or single-relaxation-time, suffers from numerical instabilities due to the presence of non-hydrodynamic ghost modes. Also, a lack of Galilean invariance contributes to the poor performance.

We present a novel model, based on central moments, that outperforms the BGK one in term stability and it is characterized by high convergence properties and a general practical implementation. A central moments-based formulation is adopted by XFlow, a commercial software by Dassault Systèmes, that is widely used to solve industrial applications, ranging from the design of planes/helicopters to tyre hydroplaning.”
