SmartAnswer courses - Rotating Machines

Context
SmartAnswer is a European MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE project (for ‘Smart mitigation of flow-induced acoustic radiation and transmission for reduced aircraft, surface transport, workplaces and wind energy noise’). This project aims at developing innovative technologies for flow and acoustic control, in a view to provide better passenger comfort and reduced environmental impact in air and surface transportation, for quieter domestic appliances and systems on homes and working places, and more sustainable wind energy production.

The acoustic analogy, moving sources and sources in a moving fluid, mechanisms of broadband airfoil noise, experimental results.

14:00 – 17h30 Flow Control – P. Flaszynski
Vortex generators, suction/blowing, synthetic jet, flow-control applications in external
and turbomachinery flows

Day 2 – Thursday 29th

09:00 – 12:30 Rotating Blade Noise - M. Roger & S. Moreau.
Fundamentals of rotating blade noise and rotating sources, the modal structure of tonal noise, free-field and in-duct formulations.

14:00 – 16h00 Fan Noise in Industry - A. Guédel & M. Henner
Applications in car-engine cooling and building air conditioning.

Day 3 – Friday 30th

09:00 – 12:30 Analytical Modeling and Numerical Approaches - S. Moreau & M. Roger
Airfoil noise and rotating-blade noise modeling approaches, comparisons with experiments, status on prediction methods.
